About Stephanie

Stephanie Culen is founder of Boomerang Yoga Yoga for a Cause.   Since 2002 ,   Stephanie has been part of the yoga teaching staff of Equinox Fitness Clubs New York City where she teaches daily yoga classes and is also a Group Fitness Manager.   Stephanie coaches clients in personalized settings and teaches a range of practices including therapeutic, restorative, prenatal and vinyasa yoga depending on the needs of the individual.  Stephanie also works with athletic teams in training, teaches in-house corporate yoga, organizes yoga and creativity workshops and hosts national and international retreats.  

Stephanie has been practicing yoga and movement for almost 20 years and has been teaching yoga since 2000.    She has been featured in several lifestyle and fitness magazines including New York Magazine, Women's Health, Quest and Baron Baptiste's video "The Trainer's Edge". She is recognized as a premier yoga instructor and was voted best yoga teacher two consecutive years by New York Magazine. In October 2006, Stephanie was selected by New York Moves magazine as one of New York City's "Power Women on the Rise for 2006", identifying her, along with a selection of other women, as someone who has changed or improved the lives of other women in the City.

In addition to teaching yoga, Stephanie has six years of experience working with children as a preschool teacher and librarian at Christ Church Day School in New York City.   Prior to teaching, Stephanie started an event and wedding planning company, the Milano Group, and a professional organizing and personal shopping company, Culen & Company.   Stephanie continued with Culen & Company until 1998 when she decided to pursue her graduate studies in education.

In 2002, Stephanie received a Masters of Science in Education from Sarah Lawrence College.   A good part of her graduate work focused on children's literacy development and advocacy for children's art programs, specifically those pertaining to movement and dance.   Stephanie received a Bachelor of Arts in Literature from St. Mary's College of Maryland.
